Tracing broadband connection issues

My Comcast broadband connection is usually pretty dependable, but I'm having intermittent disconnects from the CyberTrader quote server this morning that precipitate doing a trace route from the CyberTrader server. I haven't had to do this in a while, but wanted to post the address to go to that will perform the trace route for you:

http://test3.cybertrader.com

The CyberTrader VisualTraceRoute is a Java application that loads into the web browser. Your IP address will appear below the arrow. Click the IP address box, and the data route will be traced. You'll get a clear idea whether your connection is due to CyberTrader (the trace route will stop or show packet loss right at the beginning), or connection points along the way. Many of the connection nodes will be labeled with their geographic location. If the packet loss occurs right at the point of entry into your location, you'll know because the IP address of the node will be very close your PC's address (especially if you're connecting via a network router). My trace route determined the problem was with my router, which needed to be reset. A nice tool that saved a lot of misdirected griping with my software provider.

For those of you using a different trading platform, check with your provider to see if they have a specific traceroute tool. Otherwise you can use the one from VisualWare as long as you know the IP address starting point for your provider's server:

Don't know your IP address, or it doesn't show up in VisualTraceRoute? Find it here:
